Florida Medical employees & Foundation volunteers join hundreds of other Tampa residents to promote awareness and fight to end child sex trafficking

In the United States, approximately 300,000 children are prostituted against their will each year. That’s more than 800 kids EVERY DAY. Average age, 12 years old. Child sex trafficking is a horrific crime that causes significant physical, mental and emotional trauma. Bridging Freedom is a local non-profit whose goal is to build and operate a therapeutic safe home in the Tampa Bay area where rescued children and teens will receive long-term holistic care to help them heal.

Lisa Rice, Florida Medical Clinic employee and Foundation of Caring volunteer, led the charge in this Race. The goal was to raise money to support the fight to end sex trafficking. “I hope we are all motivated by simple human compassion and love for others. As a mother of two, the thought of a child being forced into sex trafficking is my worst nightmare.”

Rice is a member of Cypress Point Community Church, who hosted the Race. She said the fundraiser was something her church leadership felt compelled to promote. She added that the Florida Medical Clinic employees and Foundation volunteers who participated in the Race for Freedom shared a strong motivation to stop child sex trafficking and to see those already enslaved set free.

Rice said she appreciated the support provided by the FMC Foundation of Caring. “The Foundation played a vital role in the Race for Freedom as a sponsor, aiding in all aspects of awareness and providing financial support.”
