Your Donations @ Work!
People sometimes ask us, what, exactly does the Foundation of Caring mean when we say:
“The Florida Medical Clinic Foundation of Caring was created to leverage volunteer efforts, gifts and donations to create maximum impact within the communities served by Florida Medical Clinic. The Foundation is unique in that it strategically re-invests in our local communities through qualified non-profit organizations.”
The Board of Directors of the Florida Medical Clinic Foundation of Caring are proud to announce the following grants awarded to local non-profits in June, 2013:
Lions Eye Institute – $27,000
The Institute works to assure that anyone needing sight-saving or sight/restoring treatment will have access to that care regardless of their ability to pay. The awarded grant will underwrite corneal transplants for 10 people under the age of 30 who would not otherwise be able to afford it.
Academy Prep – $20,000
Academy Prep Center of Tampa is a rigorous private middle school for students qualifying for need-based scholarships. Academy Prep students attend school 11 hours a day, 6 days a week, 11 months a year. Academic classes are separated by gender. Their mission is to inspire and empower eligible students to become future community leaders, through a rigorous middle school program coupled with ongoing graduate support. The grant will be used to support the school meal program.
Tampa Crossroads – $15,000
Tampa Crossroads, provides homeless veterans a full continuum of services, offering treatment, housing, employment, and support to thousands of vets who need to develop skills to assist them toward a healthier lifestyle. Funding is designated for emergency supplies and services for homeless veterans and their families.
Oasis Network – $5,000
Oasis Network provides basic necessities (clothing and hygiene items) to underserved school students in Hillsborough County so they can come to school ready to learn. The grant will pay for student uniforms and personal clothing items for identified low income youth.
Z Kids – $5,000
Z Kids is a joint program of the Florida Medical Clinic Foundation of Caring and the Zephyrhills Rotary Foundation. Together, we sponsor food drives and help insure that school children in Zephyrhills will have their nutritional needs met during summer and school holiday breaks. Many of these children rely on the free or reduced meals during the school day and are at risk of having inadequate or no food when not in school. The gift will help supplement the daily food drives conducted at Florida Medical Clinic offices in Zephyrhills.
