Bowling tournament raises thousands for area homeless

FMC Foundation of Caring event benefitted Trinity Café and Tampa Crossroads

The staff, family and friends of Florida Medical Clinic came out in force on October 12 for the 5th annual FMC Foundation of Caring “Our Hands, Our Cause” Bowling Tournament. Proceeds from the tournament were designated for Trinity Café and Tampa Crossroads.

Tampa Crossroads assists homeless people, mainly veterans suffering from addiction or psychological problems. The facility invites them in, assists in their rehabilitation and helps them acclimate back into society. Trinity Café has served more than a million meals to homeless in our community. They serve them with dignity, on real china set at white tablecloth covered tables.

Foundation of Caring Community Leadership Board member, Jennifer Frazier, said the Our Hands, Our Cause event was a great way to give back without spending a ton of money. “You can come here, have a good time and make a difference without writing a huge check.”

Fun? Oh, yeah, you can believe these folks had a good time. Teams came to bowl wearing themed team costumes and each decorated their table to match the theme.

Everyone bowled, but the real competition was for the best costume and best table. Teams included the Pirates of the Lost Pin, The Kidney Stones, Cosmic Pain Relief, Rectum Wreckers and Backwoods Medicine. Some of the participants spent weeks developing their theme and crafting their costumes.

In the costume contest, one team created a precedent by winning both the costume contest and the best decoration award for the first time ever.
